I bet you’ve never thought of your Twitter content as “Social Media Cleavage”… but it kind of is. Think about it: You’re trying to dress up what you’re putting out there to make people look at it, notice it, and want it. Kind of a weird analogy, but it works. So how do you make your Social Media Cleavage more desirable? Unfortunately it’s not as simple as a push-up bra and some tape… but it can be done. Follow these simple guidelines for making what you put out there more desirable…
- Rock What You’ve Got. Some people have large ones, some people have small ones… follower communities, that is. If you’ve got 50 people following you, then focus on extra targeted, conversation engaged content. @Mention or tag individual people, and say something specific to them (like complimenting their Social Media Cleavage) or offer information that clearly fits your small demographic. Be sure to re-tweet people and respond to their questions. If you’ve got thousands of followers, cater to them by creating hashtag conversations (ie. put out a questions or forum topic, and let people know how they can engage together, like making a custom hashtag). Don’t fret about the size of your cleavage, er, community – just work with what you’ve got and try to improve from there!
- Respond To Compliments. If someone compliments your (Social Media) Cleavage, say thank you! Always check your @mentions and direct messages, and respond to EVERYONE, whether the feedback is good or back. A simple thank you, or a ‘sorry you’re disappointed, how can I make it better?’ message makes or breaks your online reputation. Letting comments and emails go could lose you a lot of respect.
- Dress Up Your Cleavage. Are your Social Media profiles bland or templatey? Try to brand and optimize your profiles as much as possible so it looks like you care about your online presence. I’m sure you’d gawf at someone who dresses uber sloppy in the office, so why would you make your Twitter or Facebook profiles sloppy? You can create custom Twitter backgrounds yourself using Photoshop, or through a service like TwitBacks. Also, don’t forget to include lots of relevant information using optimized keywords whenever possible.
- Put Our Your Own Flavor, Not Someone Else’s. Don’t try to copy what someone else is doing – socialize online with your own tone of voice and flavor. No one likes a copycat, and if you’re not being authentic, they WILL notice! Sometimes less is more, so stop trying so hard. Remember, Social Media is simply talking to people online – it’s not like writing a dissertation.
Follow these basic steps, and I’m sure your “Social Media Cleavage” will entice people to look and desire! As always, Contact Me if you have any questions.
